Selling the same catalogue through Amazon, an independent storefront and other marketplaces creates a stock-allocation problem: one physical unit must not be promised to two customers. More frequent updates help only when the underlying stock statuses and reservation rules are correct.
This guide focuses on allocation. For choosing an Amazon fulfillment model, see the FBA and merchant-fulfilled planning guide; for order handoffs after allocation, use the multi-channel order-routing workflow.
Separate physically present stock from stock available to sell. Reserved orders, damaged units and returns awaiting inspection are not interchangeable with available inventory. Maintain a separate record for stock held by a marketplace and goods moving between locations.
A useful operating calculation is available local stock = confirmed sellable on-hand units minus active reservations minus any deliberately withheld buffer. Keep the buffer visible; do not let it become an unexplained adjustment used to hide discrepancies.
You can use a shared pool, channel-specific allocations, or a mixture. A shared pool needs dependable reservation and update behavior. Channel-specific allocations reduce competition for the same units but can leave stock idle in one channel while another sells out.
Base the choice on demand, update reliability and the cost of a stockout. Do not assume that every sales channel has the same availability rules or that using one software system makes every update instantaneous.
Use the inventory-control guide for counting and reconciliation. Treat bundles carefully: the availability of one bundle depends on its components, and those components may also be sold individually.
Assign an exception owner and define how an update failure becomes visible. A retry must not create a duplicate order or deduct inventory twice. During an unresolved mismatch, reduce exposure through the supported channel controls rather than continuing to advertise stock you cannot confirm.
Keep a timestamp and reason for manual corrections. Otherwise, a later automated update can appear to fix the balance while concealing the original error.
Estimate the promotion’s demand, confirm receiving dates and agree how much stock each channel can offer. Avoid counting an incoming purchase order as immediately sellable. After the event, compare reserved, dispatched, cancelled and returned quantities before reallocating the remainder.
Tell Skynera which channels you use, how SKUs and bundles are identified, and which inventory events must be exchanged. Discuss the available inventory and fulfillment services and verify the actual integration scope before relying on automated stock updates.
