Slow-moving inventory needs a SKU-level decision, not an automatic removal order. Start with the stock you actually hold, how long it has been there, and what you expect to sell. Confirm the current storage rules and charges for your Amazon marketplace and account; this guide does not announce a policy change or assume universal thresholds.
These issues require different actions. Removing a product does not solve a listing or eligibility problem. A capacity warning does not prove every slow seller should leave Amazon.
For each SKU, record stock quantity, age information, recent sales, forecast demand, current costs and any relevant handling or expiry constraints. Note promotions separately. Compare expected demand with the stock that is genuinely available; avoid treating a stockout period as evidence of low demand.
Assign one action and one owner to each item: hold, reduce future replenishment, test demand, investigate availability, or evaluate a physical removal. Set a review date so “hold” does not become an indefinite decision.
Moving goods elsewhere may exchange one cost for several others. Obtain estimates for the applicable removal process, transport, receiving, inspection, external storage and subsequent order fulfillment. Confirm when stock will actually be available at the receiving location.
In a hypothetical comparison, leaving stock in place may be preferable if likely near-term sales exceed the incremental holding cost. External storage may be worth evaluating when future demand is real but near-term demand is weak. Neither outcome can be assumed without the relevant costs and timing.
Before each new shipment, review existing stock, inbound quantities and sales since the last plan. Avoid sending more simply because the supplier has finished production. Use the external-storage replenishment plan to connect warehouse stock with the next receiving window.
Use the capacity-change response checklist for inbound constraints, and the FBA and merchant-fulfilled planning guide for the wider fulfillment decision. The inventory management guide explains how to reconcile physical stock and sellable availability.
