When a tariff-related change is confirmed, the commercial question is which planned shipments and customer commitments it affects. A controlled landed-cost review connects the customs specialist’s findings to purchasing, pricing and warehouse planning without asking operations staff to guess a new duty rate.

Establish what actually changed

Record the reviewed product code, destination, applicable date and source. Distinguish a classification change from a change in rate or another requirement. Use the official US tariff schedule and Mexican classification references with specialist guidance rather than applying a headline percentage to every SKU.

Build an affected-order list

  • Separate goods not yet ordered, supplier orders, dispatched goods and received stock.
  • Link each shipment to the approved product-data version and relevant timing.
  • Ask the responsible specialist which assumptions need changing for each shipment.
  • Keep unresolved cases visible instead of treating missing information as zero cost.
  • Record who approves revised purchasing, pricing or replenishment decisions.

Compare costs on the same basis

Separate product cost, transport, border-related charges, domestic delivery, receiving, storage and order handling. Record the currency, estimate date, source and exclusions for each line. A higher total does not automatically mean the carrier increased its freight rate.

Compare the old and revised scenario using the same quantity and route. If a change in shipment size is also proposed, show it as a separate scenario so the team can distinguish the tariff effect from transport or storage effects.

Should you move inventory immediately?

Not based on an unverified assumption. A different stock location may add handling, carrying cost and another border movement. Check customer demand and the full movement plan before making an irreversible inventory decision.

Close the loop after receipt

Compare actual invoices with the approved estimate and investigate differences by cost line. Preserve the original assumption and explain adjustments; do not overwrite the estimate to make it match the final bill. Use the quote-to-invoice audit trail for the transport portion.

Plan the fulfillment handoff

Connect these controls to the Mexico–US cross-border fulfillment guide. Discuss your Mexico warehousing and dispatch requirements with Skynera and confirm the agreed responsibilities before implementation.
